In this intensive, on-campus workshop, Elli Milan teaches you how to create a narrative painting in YOUR style. Narratives are a powerful way to speak from the heart and learning how to create them will elevate your body of work.
Over 3 days, you will learn how to create the source material for these works, including how to light and photograph subjects for your narrative. Then, you’ll discover how to pull your audience into your painting using the color palette of the piece. We’ll even discuss how to make these narratives accessible and comprehensible to your audience so that they want to engage with your work again and again.

Day by Day What Will Happen:
Day 1 - Friday, September 17th
9am - noon: Photographing source material and creating a expression through the use of lighting.
Noon-1pm: Lunch Break
1pm - 4pm: Creating your source and beginning works on your canvas.
Day 2 - Saturday, September 18th
9am-noon: Create an underpainting and choose a process that will best go with your narrative.
Noon-1pm: Lunch break
1pm-4pm: Choose colors that will tell a story. Learn how to be the director of the movie.
Day 3 - Sunday, September 19th
9am-noon: Finish your oil paintings.
Noon-1pm: Lunch break
1pm-4pm: Critiques with Elli

Milan Art Institute is a place where passionate hearts and creative minds come together to bring visions to life. The founders, John and Elli Milan, have been successful artists for over twenty five years each and have made a living during that entire period solely through art. Their daughter, Dimitra Milan, became a professional artist, and at the age of fifteen, had generated over a million dollars through the sales of her own artwork. The Milans’ works have been featured in galleries across the world. And now, they are sharing their insights about the art industry with everyone. They have rallied a dedicated and incredibly talented group of individuals to fulfill the dream of inspiring artists all over the world. All necessary materials for the workshop are included. However, you might want to bring your favorite brushes to supplement what you’ll be using in the workshop.
All supplies will be included and they will be shared by others in the class. We have an on-site art supply store where you can purchase anything extra you want.
Yes a canvas or sometimes another surface will be included.
Workshops will be held at Milan Art Institute close to Athens, GA.

Room, board, and transportation is not included, however we recommend to stay in the historic town of Athens, GA. Athens is a fun and lively town with lots to do at night after the workshops, plus it's only 20 minutes from the Institute. We will be providing lunch each day during the workshop, so you don’t have to worry about that.
Lunches will be included daily at the workshops. If you have any food allergies or diet restrictions it might be a good idea to pack your own lunch for the day. You can also email [email protected] and let them know about any specifics.
If, for any reason, you need to cancel your attendance to the workshop after you’ve registered, you can get a full refund within 24 hours of your purchase. After this time period is over, you can apply the workshop fee to any other workshop or product (including the Mastery Program) Milan Art Institute offers. However, you must inform us at least 72 hours before the workshop to be able to transfer the credit to another workshop or product.
